Will the PJ-722 work with a Chromebook?
Brother lists Windows, Mac and Linux print driver support for the PJ-722, plus an Android SDK. ChromeOS is not listed, so we don't recommend it for Chromebook-only setups.
Can I use it in a patrol car or truck?
Yes, with Brother's optional car adapter, which plugs into a 12 V outlet and can power the printer or charge the battery. Brother notes print speed can vary with vehicle voltage, and a car outlet may not fully charge the battery. The printer is rated to operate from 14°F to 122°F (-10°C to 50°C).
What paper does the PJ-722 use?
Only 8.5-inch-wide direct thermal paper, never plain paper; it uses no ink, toner or ribbon. You can use cut sheets, continuous rolls or perforated rolls and choose the type in the driver. Fanfold paper works with a separately sold fanfold case. Brother recommends genuine Brother thermal paper. Load paper with the smooth thermal side facing down.
How long do printouts last before they fade?
It depends on the paper. Brother rates its standard rolls for up to 7 years of archive life and its premium cut sheets (LB3635) for up to 20 years. Thermal print can fade sooner if it touches heat, vinyl, leather, adhesive tape, markers, alcohol, hand lotion, water or sweat.
Does it work with Windows 11, Windows 10 or Mac?
Yes. Brother lists Windows 11 and Windows 10 (32- and 64-bit), current macOS versions and Linux as supported. Download the driver from support.brother.com and connect with a USB cable to the printer's mini-B port. Brother doesn't list a cable in the box, so have one ready.
Can I print from an iPhone or iPad?
No. The PJ-722 connects only by USB cable and has no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and Brother's supported-system list doesn't include iOS or iPadOS. Brother does list Android, and its developer kit supports Android 6 or later, so Android printing depends on your app supporting the printer.
Does the PJ-722 come with a battery or charger?
No. Brother's box contents list the printer only; the rechargeable battery, AC adapter and car adapter are each sold separately. Brother rates a full battery at about 600 pages, and a full charge takes up to about 3 hours. Dark, dense printing drains the battery faster.
Is the PJ-722 still supported?
Brother has discontinued the PJ-722 and names the PocketJet 8 series as its replacement, but it still lists current Windows 11 and macOS drivers for it on support.brother.com.
