The scanner is probably not paired to its cradle. Scan the pairing barcode on the cradle, connect the cradle to your PC by USB, and scan the USB Keyboard HID barcode in the DS8178 Quick Start Guide. The same guide has barcodes to add Tab or Enter after each scan.
