What kind of slips can the TM-U295 print?
The TM-U295 is a 7-pin impact slip printer for counters and teller stations. It prints on slips from 3.15–7.17 in wide and 2.72–10.12 in long, makes one original plus two copies, and its page mode lets you print almost anywhere on the slip. These models connect by RS-232 serial.
What's the difference between the TM-U295-272 and TM-U295-292?
Only the color. The -272 (C31C163272) is Epson Cool White and the -292 (C31C163292) is Dark Gray. Both are the same 7-pin impact slip printer with an RS-232 serial interface, and Epson sells both without a power supply, so plan to buy one either way.
Does the TM-U295 have a USB port? What cable do I need?
No. These models have an RS-232 serial port and a cash drawer port only. You need a serial cable that matches the port on your computer or scale indicator. If your computer has no serial port, a USB-to-serial adapter is a common workaround, but Epson doesn't document adapters, so test yours before relying on it.
Will it work with my truck scale or scale indicator?
Usually, if your indicator can send tickets to a serial printer. The TM-U295 uses Epson's standard ESC/POS commands over RS-232. You set its speed (1200–9600 bps), data bits, parity and handshaking (XON/XOFF or DTR/DSR) with switches on the printer, and these must match your indicator. Ask your scale provider whether your indicator's ticket format supports this printer.
Can it print on roll paper or regular receipts?
No. The TM-U295 prints only on cut slips and forms fed one at a time; it has no roll paper holder. It takes normal, pressure-sensitive (carbonless) and carbon-copy paper, from 0.09–0.25 mm for single sheets and up to 0.35 mm total for multi-part forms. For roll receipts you need a receipt printer instead.
Are there Windows 10 and Windows 11 drivers?
Yes. Epson's Advanced Printer Driver (version 4.59) includes the TM-U295 and supports Windows 11 (64-bit) and Windows 10 (32- and 64-bit). Download it from Epson's TM-U295 support page. Your PC still needs a working serial connection to the printer.
How do I insert a slip?
Turn the printer on and press RELEASE so the RELEASE light comes on. Slide the slip in from the front or side until it reaches the stopper. If it's in correctly, the PAPER OUT light goes off; if not, remove it and try again. The printer ejects the slip automatically after printing.
Which power supply do I need for the TM-U295?
Epson lists the PS-180 power supply (part C32C825341) as compatible with both models. The PS-180 comes without an AC power cord, so you also need a cord. If you use another supply, Epson requires 24 VDC ±10% rated at 2.0 A or more; the wrong power source can damage the printer.
What ribbon does the TM-U295 use?
It uses the Epson ERC-27 ribbon cassette. Epson warns that unapproved ribbon cassettes may damage the printer and void the warranty. To change it, press RELEASE, switch the printer off, remove the cover, and click the new cassette into place on both sides.
