Delivery Time: 0-3 days
Product Highlights

• 【Wide Current Setting Range】: Adjustable from 36 to 100A — a single relay covers a broad range of motor FLA values without swapping units.

• 【Selectable Trip Class】: Choose Trip Class 10E, 20E, or 30E to match the thermal characteristics of different motor types and applications.

• 【Broad Contactor Compatibility】: Mounts directly on ABB AF40, AF52, AF65, AF80, AF96, AF116, AF140, and AF146 contactors for a complete motor starter assembly.

• 【Phase Loss and Imbalance Protection】: Detects single-phasing and phase imbalance conditions to protect motors from the most common causes of overload damage.

• 【Extended Temperature Range】: Operates from -25°C to +70°C — suitable for outdoor enclosures, cold storage, and high-ambient industrial environments.

The ABB EF96-100 is an electronic overload relay with a 36–100A current setting range, designed for direct mounting on ABB AF-series contactors. Unlike bimetal relays, the EF96-100 uses electronic sensing to provide accurate, repeatable protection across ambient temperature extremes from -25°C to +70°C — with no derating required for high-ambient installations.

Selectable trip classes (10E, 20E, and 30E) allow the relay to be configured for standard, hard-starting, or high-inertia motors. The relay provides phase loss detection and phase imbalance protection, covering the most frequent causes of motor burnout. It is rated for 1000V AC per IEC and 600V AC per UL, with a UL FLA of 100A and a SCCR of 100 kA at 600V when used with a 225A Class J fuse.

Best For:

- Motor protection in industrial panels using ABB AF40–AF96 contactors

- High-ambient or outdoor environments where bimetal relay derating is a concern

- Applications with hard-starting or high-inertia loads requiring Class 20E or 30E protection

- Facilities replacing analog overload relays with electronic equivalents

- Motor starters where phase loss protection is required by specification

Q: What current range does the EF96-100 cover?

A: The relay adjusts from 36A to 100A, accommodating a wide range of motor FLA settings without requiring a different relay model.

Q: Which ABB contactors is the EF96-100 compatible with?

A: The EF96-100 mounts directly on ABB AF40, AF52, AF65, AF80, AF96, AF116, AF140, and AF146 contactors.

Q: What trip classes are available?

A: Trip class is selectable between 10E, 20E, and 30E to match standard, hard-starting, or high-inertia motor applications.

Q: Does this relay provide phase loss protection?

A: Yes. The EF96-100 detects both phase loss (single-phasing) and phase imbalance conditions.

Q: What is the operating temperature range?

A: -25°C to +70°C. Unlike bimetal relays, the electronic design does not require derating at elevated ambient temperatures.

Q: What is the UL Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR)?

A: 100 kA at 600V when used with a 225A Class J fuse, per UL specifications.

Q: Is a manual reset required after a trip?

A: Manual versus automatic reset configuration details should be confirmed in the ABB EF96-100 datasheet (document 2CDC107041D0201), as reset mode options may depend on relay configuration.
